Blogging Etiquette

Okay, so you guys know that I'm to this and since I couldn't find the "Blogging for dummies" book anywhere, I have a question. If I have a blog that I love to read, is it okay for me to add it to my favorites or should I ask first (sorry Kim, Carrie and Lammy) or can I just add them. I guess this would apply to other websites as well. If there are any other rules that you think I might need to know I would really appreciate the tips. As always, you can feel free to comment if you have any suggestions as well. I'm so happy that I started this Blog and I just want to make sure that I'm not breaking any unwritten rules.

P.S. Kim, Carrie and Lammy, is it okay if I add you to my list??? :o)

Nearly every blogging babe loves to have people link to her. There are some few who keep their blogs just for family and close friends, but I'm not one of them. =) I've never asked, but I've had people ask me. Never hurts, I guess!

When it comes to comments, and whether or not to reply to them, everyone does it different. Some reply in their own comments section, some email responses, some don't respond.

I do a mix. I respond to ones that I feel inclined to, but only by email. There's just no way to know if people are going to come look at your comment section again. If I have a regular commenter who doesn't have their email listed, I'll ask them for it so I can respond to them every now and again.

Good luck - you're doing great!

I think that adding someone's blog to your favorite list is such a compliment! (Thanks for adding mine, btw. It makes me feel cool.) I don't think you need to ask for permission, but it might make someone's day to let them know just how much you enjoy their blog.

I'm so glad you're having fun in the blogging world! I enjoy reading yours every day.

One of my questions is: how long can you lurk on someone's blog before you let them know you're looking at it? I check up on a girl I knew in high school every once in a while, and I've never commented because it's hard to say, "You probably don't remember me, but I know everything that's going on in your life right now." I don't know, maybe there's a ton of blogging etiquette rules that I'm breaking.

Thanks for all the great advice. I'll just cross my fingers and go for it and hope that I don't offend anyone.

Carrie,

I have been lurking on some blogs for a long time but now that I have my own, I'm starting to be more bold and post some comments when I feel inclined. It is strange that there are some that I don't have a clue who they are but know all about their family but I think that's the fun part. I think you should comment to the girl you used to know because it could rekindle or kindle a friendship.

Clement,

Of course you can add me and I would love to add you. Thanks!!!
