So, we have talked to Blake about being a missionary someday and most of the time he says "No way" Lately he's getting more okay with the idea. He's such a wiggily kid that we often wonder if he gets anything at all out of church.
Well, last week we found out that he indeed is getting something out of church. His babysitter has a 3 year old daughter that Blake has grown to love and they often act like brother and sister. My sitter does not take her children to church or talk to them about God unless they ask her a question. It's a long story as to why this is but I digress.
My sitter Paula said that her aunt or someone had sent a Christmas Book to Victoria (the 3 year old) Blake saw the book and asked Victoria if she'd like him to read it to her. As he's reading the story of Christs birth to her she says "Blake, who is Jesus?" Blake says "Victoria, do you not know who Jesus is?" He starts to tell her about Jesus and the story of his birth. Of course this was in 7 year old terms. When he was done Victoria said "Blake, is this true" He said "Every word of it"
When we talked about this later, we pointed out that he was being a missionary. Maybe there is hope after all.

Funny Blake story
We went to dinner with my in-laws tonight as per the norm. When we had finished eating
I asked Blake if he had any money. He searched his pockets and said he didn't. I told him that I had forgot the money and then everyone else said the same thing. I then asked him what we should do since we didn't have money to pay. He looked carefully around the room and then thoughtfully tapped his chin, paused a moment and said "HIDE" We all burst out laughing as he ducked under the table. That little boy never ceases to make me laugh daily. How I was ever so blessed, I'll never understand.

Being a mom
My most fabulous and very talented friend Kim has asked"
"How about telling us a bit about what it's like for you to be a mom? "
If you look here and here you will see the of our journey to parenthood. Let's just sum it up by saying that it was not easy.
I still sometimes catch myself looking at him and thinking "Really, he's ours, for keeps?" I can hardly believe and it's been 5 years. I can't really remember what we did before we had him. He has brought so much joy, laughter, tears, meaning etc. to our lives.
I really never knew that you could love someone so much. I mean, I love my husband and parents with all my heart but there is something about the love I feel for my son that I can't explain. It's an all consuming kind of love. It's a "my heart just my burst if it grows much more in love with you" kind of love. For me, this was an instant thing. I didn't know for sure how I would feel because we adopted but all of the doubt just melted away when they put him in my arms. I knew he was the one I had been waiting for. It also amazes me how the "mama bear"comes out so quickly if I feel that he's threatened. What is this thing that makes me feel that I could easily claw someones eyes out if they hurt him?
Sometimes, I just pray that I'm not messing him up to badly. He's on to the fact that I'm not perfect and has seen the worst of me. I hope he can forgive my shortcomings.
I hope someday he can understand just how much he's brought to my life. What a sense of purpose he has given me. I would hazard to guess that day won't come until he holds his own child.
I could cry when I think about what his life would have been like with his transient birthmother. I'm so thankful she entrusted him to us. I hope he never feels that he wasn't wanted because there are not 2 people in the world that wanted him more than his daddy and I.
I could go on and on about what it means for me to be a mom. I will just finish with saying that I am so thankful that Heavenly Father blessed me with him. He is mine. I can feel it. He was meant for us. I'm blessed beyond measure and my heart is full.

Super Student of the Week

Last week Blake was chosen as The Super Student of the Week. His preschool teacher doesn't give these out every week. A student has to have a really good week with his behavior and his "work" in order to receive one of these. Blake was so proud of himself. He got to pick a special prize as his reward and he picked a little airplane.

Did you ever wonder...
what green chalk tastes like? Yeah, me either but in case you were wondering, you could ask my son who decided to take a bite of it while out coloring on the patio. By the look on this face (I don't know why I didn't grab the camera) it didn't taste very good. He came running in to get a drink and try to get it off his tongue and when that didn't work he grabbed a paper towel, I shouldn't have but I couldn't help but laugh. What was he thinking? Did it look a little like the stuff in a pixie stick?

My son....the shoe bandit
So, this weekend I met one of my friends down at the farmers market in town. When we had sampled and bought all the fresh produce we could stand, we decided to check out a shoe store downtown because I needed a new pair of "way to expensive but I gotta fork over the dough because I have bad feet" shoes. It's a small store and I knew it wouldn't take long so we decided to brave it with my son in tow. After trying on many pairs of shoes both from the back and from the sale rack, I decided on a pair and then realized that I had left my purse in my car so I didn't have to carry it all over the market. The nice salesperson said she would hold the shoes for me while I ran to the car to get my money (my $9.00 in cash in my pocket wasn't going to cut it apparently).
So, off we go out of the store and down the street when I hear this strange thumping sound. I look down and see that my son has on one of his shoes and is holding the other and what is on the other foot you ask? , It was a size 10 men's dress shoe in black. Yep, I was mortified and of course my friend is just cracking up and so are several other people that saw the whole thing unfold. We turn around and march back in there so we can return the shoe to the sale rack. Luckily the nice salesperson just laughed instead of calling the police :o) When I asked my little shoe bandit what he thought he was doing, he said " I don't know mommy, I just wanted to play with it" They start so young with the life of crime these days.
